Two Cruise Ships Bring Tourists to Preah Sihanouk

Phnom Penh Phnom Penh: Preah Sihanouk province welcomed two cruise ships, the Sea Bourn Encore and Le Jacques Cartier, on separate days, bringing over 700 multinational tourists to explore the coastal city. Both vessels made a scheduled stop at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port for a day-long visit. This event marks another significant milestone in Cambodia's efforts to boost its tourism industry, offering a warm welcome to visitors from across the globe.

The Sea Bourn Encore, flying the Bahamas flag, arrived early in the morning with 561 passengers of 26 different nationalities, predominantly British and American, along with a crew representing 47 nationalities. The ship's visit is part of its voyage from Thailand to Vietnam, showcasing Cambodia's strategic location as a key stop in Southeast Asian cruise routes.

On the other hand, the French-flagged Le Jacques Cartier, carrying 151 tourists of 14 nationalities and a 121-member crew, docked on February 21. Having sailed from Malaysia, the ship's brief stay in Cambodia highlights the diverse origins of tourists drawn to the country's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

These visits not only underline Preah Sihanouk's growing appeal as a cruise destination but also reflect the broader efforts by Cambodia to enhance its tourism infrastructure and services. The government has been actively promoting the development of the sector as a critical engine for economic growth and job creation.

Authorities and local businesses in Preah Sihanouk province capitalized on this opportunity to showcase Cambodian hospitality, culture, and cuisine, providing tourists with a memorable experience of the country's unique offerings. From guided tours of historical sites and natural attractions to sampling local delicacies, visitors were immersed in the richness of Cambodian traditions.

The successful docking of these cruise ships is a testament to the ongoing improvements in Cambodia's port facilities and services, aimed at accommodating the increasing size and number of cruise ships visiting the country. It also underscores the importance of international tourism in fostering economic development and cross-cultural exchange.

As Cambodia continues to open its doors to the world, events like these are crucial in positioning the country as a premier tourist destination in Asia. With a strategic focus on sustainable tourism development, Cambodia aims to attract more international visitors, contributing to the prosperity and preservation of its cultural and natural heritage.
